Throwing Pet Owners A Bone

Animals: At Valley 'day care' center for dogs, camera allows owners to
visit their pups at a Web site.

If you love your dog as much as your kid, the Doggie View Day Care Center may be for you.  Based in Studio City, Calif., the center takes pooches on three walks a day in the nearby hills, treats them to fresh spring water and biscuits and lets anxious "parents" check up on their dogs on the Internet - All for $25 a day.

It's been so successful that founder Barbra Waldare, who opened the center last fall after 18 years of working in kennels and grooming dogs, plans to add a second camera on a movable mount so she can follow dogs around the room as they play and gaze out the window.  A Web cam shows the dogs frolicking is an 800-sq-ft. room equipped with an "agility tunnel" and painted with a pretty mural of trees, hills and sky.  Waldare says the web cam "gives owners peace of mind.  A lot of people think dogs get separation anxiety, but it's really the owners who have it."  And most people think dogs are the high-maintenance species.

What's Being Said

"After looking at franchises and being shocked at the high cost, I ran across Barbra's website, called her and got a whole different feeling than I got when I talked to the franchise people. I knew right away that Barbra cared, that she has a passion for what she is doing helping people get started - and for a much more reasonable fee. She helps you make the right decisions. She tells you what you need to know, even if that's not what you want to hear. She helps you be successful."
